The latest generation of Hewlett Packard Enterprise MSA Gen6 disk arrays has undoubtedly found its place in the field of small and medium enterprises. Currently, the SMB sector is looking for solutions that are affordable, powerful and especially user-friendly and flexible. MSA disk arrays are easy to set up, use, and manage – so intuitive that virtually anyone without special knowledge or experience can handle it.
As with the fifth generation, the portfolio consists of 3 models: MSA 1060, MSA 2060 and MSA 2062 and their price starts well below € 10,000. The difference, of course, is in the power and capacity that each model offers. However, the common denominator are several new technologies in the hardware architecture that Gen6 offers, which move it significantly ahead of Gen5. Only the increase in performance expressed through IOPS speaks for itself – MSA Gen6 can read up to 325,000 IOPS, which is 45% more than the previous generation. This means in particular a better user experience and work efficiency. One can also add the so-called "hands-free tiering", which automatically adapts tiering to current application requirements and changes without user intervention, resulting in better performance.
Also new is the new way of setting up disk groups, which was named MSA Data Protection Plus. It is an alternative to the classic RAID method – the user can choose between RAID or Data Protection Plus during installation. The advantage is a new level of data protection, which is based on full disk space virtualization. The data is evenly distributed across all disks in the array, resulting in more powerful and efficient space utilization, eliminating disk idle time, and faster data recovery in the event of a disk failure.

The new MSA Health Check functionality enhances the user experience. It is a cloud-based tool for finding potential problems, which, thanks to systematic and regular analysis of logs, eliminates up to 76% of cases when the user would have to use support, and thus reduces downtime. In addition, in the event of a problem or deviation from the "best practice", the user is suggested steps to optimally resolve the situation.
Thanks to the above-mentioned attributes, HPE MSA Gen6 disk arrays have become a serious candidate for companies looking for arrays for smaller SANs with an excellent ratio of flexibility, performance and price. In a situation where SMEs are struggling with the risks of unpredictable growth rates and uncertain budgets, HPE MSA Gen6 is an excellent practical choice.
